Meditation can have tremendous benefits in everyone’s lives. There are many different ways of meditating, and often people will seek the “right” way to meditate. Here are some of my thoughts for you to help you find your way of meditating.
You don’t have to sit in lotus pose to meditate. As a matter of fact, you don’t have to sit down at all to meditate. You can meditate while folding laundry or doing the dishes. Even when playing online slots, or other activities you can do on your gadget. Many people find a meditative state while running. I personally get into a meditative state under the shower, away from distractions such as my mobile phone and email. There is just something about the soothing sound and feel of the water that declutters my mind and brings me clarity.
Meditation is not competitive. There’s no such thing as, my meditation is better, or more effective than yours. Don’t compare your way of meditating to how others meditate. What works for them, may not work for you. Meditation, very much like a yoga practice, is something extremely personal. Find what works best for you. On different days you may meditate different ways, depending on where you are mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
You don’t have to use music for meditation. If you enjoy music and it helps you get into a peaceful state, then go ahead and use music, but it certainly is not a requirement.
Using a guided meditation is not cheating. If you are new to meditating, it can help to have someone walking you through mediation. Listen to some recordings if that works for you. Although you are guided through the meditation, your experience is still uniquely yours, and listening to the same recording can yield different results every time you listen to it.
There really are no rules for meditation. Do what feels right to and works for you. You get to make your own rules.
